GOALS FOR THE DAILY SCHEDULE
Free Time Please remember that children who are two years of age often need help in this area. Free play is for the children (this is not a "free for all"). You, as the teacher, are still responsible for the classroom and the activities that emerge.
Lunch Children should always have their hands washed, faces cleaned, diapers changed, and clothes straightened before they come to the table. The children must sit quietly at the table with their hands folded before they say their prayer.
Music Good morning/afternoon songs may reflect the season, holiday, event or theme. There could be some movement while singing with the children to incorporate gross motor activity. Other languages such as Spanish can be incorporated easily. Make sure it is stimulating and fun. Use records, tapes, etc.
Story Should be a quiet time; may include flannel board, puppets/finger plays, learning games in small groups, etc. Teachers should teach one new song per month.
Calendar To include; days of the week, month of the year, and relationship of the month to the season. Again, other languages such as Spanish can be incorporated. Children in the four year old classroom should learn the Pledge of Allegiance.
Weather To include; season, type of weather, and a discussion about weather, i.e. this is a typical day for the season, type of clothing, weather chart, what to do in different types of weather, etc.
Gross Motor Building good physical fitness with children and developing flexibility. Working on such skills as tumbling, balancing, climbing, skipping, jumping rope, dribbling a ball, bean bag activities, parachute, etc.
Fine Motor Strengthening hard muscle and control. Introduction and use of different types of writing tools.
Social We work on instilling and building good self esteem and easing children into group interaction; developing good independent skills and self expression; being able to take more responsibility for their actions and to understand cause and effect.
Character Good manners, respect for own self, others, property, and teachers. Appropriate language. Learning cause and effect for their actions and behavior.
